Most Important Thing To Consider Before Building A Rabbit Hutch

Before you start purchasing all the necessary materials in building your first rabbit hutch, you have to know that there is this one important thing that you always need to consider.

So what is this most important thing?

This is the "number of your pets" that you intend to house inside the rabbit hutch that you are going to build.

The most common mistake by people who build their own rabbit hutches is that they simply follow designs shared by other individuals. They make use of the same exact measurements without making any adjustment of their own.

So what if you have three rabbit pets and you end up building a rabbit hutch with a size that is only good for two?

You have to know that you must provide your rabbit pets enough room to move around and stretch themselves out.

How To Determine The Size Of A Suitable Rabbit Hutch?

If you are going to look around the web, there are some sources wherein the authors are giving out some of their suggested measurements. But as for my suggestion, the best method is to measure your own pet. Measure it's width, length and height. With these measurements, you will at least have some idea on the dimensions of the rabbit hutch that you are going to build.

Width

When your rabbit is relaxing, it often stretches itself on the floor. Thus, take your measurement starting from its front paw down to the end of its back foot.

With enough space of a rabbit hutch, your pet can fully stretch out when resting and even roll around.

Length

Most suggested length for a rabbit hutch is that, your pet must be able to hop at least 3 to 4 times before bumping its nose on the other end of the wall.

Height

Rabbits do often love to stand up on their back legs. This is the reason why the rabbit hutch that you need to build must be tall enough to provide space. Your pet must be able to stand and jump without hitting the ceiling with its head.

Aside from the current measurement of your pet, you have to consider the type of its breed. Depending on the type of breed of your pet, some rabbits can actually grow large. If you didn't consider this part and your rabbit had grown large enough, you will have to build another bigger sized rabbit hutch.
